Woody Buttress is one of my fave routes on our mountains and I can only describe yesterday’s hike as Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious! The ocean views and variety of scrambles, the company and the good food maketh the hike totes awesome! Oh and how was yesterday’s weather man!
As we knew that the Buttress is a relatively quickie hike, we again started from Kloof nek car park (still avoiding the Teresa Avenue detour along Camps Bay) getting Anwaaz and Taahir from WSAR and HNRescue who took Ubuntu and Bonteheuvel Environmental hiking clubs up Tranquility. After some chit chat, Anwar checked 11 of us in with Mountain Tracking and Safety to start 7am with an 11:30am ETA and off we go along the pipe track taking lots of photos of the flowers!
With memories flooding of the last time I took photos of the flowers along this route..and when I looked up, I was looking straight at Blinkwater Ravine…
The Pipe track is pretty boring on my legs so jog off a bit until I got distracted with more photos lolz…anyway, we make our way up Woody Buttress and start our first scramble and its bliss! I sit a while and take in the views and just breathe!
We then make our way to the second scramble and look up at the cloud porn taking place! (oh yes! Was a partial solar eclipse as well but we were the other side of the mountain to witness the event) and its photo time with bestie!
With a few more itty bitty scrambles, we are on our way to the most challenging part of this route but not before more photos lolz (probably much to the disdain of our ‘hasty’ hikers but we were pretty chilled out so just taking advantage of every moment! Let’s blame it on the humidity of the day.
With a little bit of fear in me and with the help of our good Doc, I’m finally up and over this section and we chill some more…and then I see a distracting hole in a rock and bam! Photo of lions head opportunity! The rest of them were like what is that woman doing?! Until they saw and they did the same hehe. We then saw another distracting occurrence out in the ocean and tried to ascertain what it could be…probs a whale..and just chilled there for a while until I reminded them that the ‘hasty’ hikers are waiting on us! 😛
After a few more itty bitty scrambles and really taking our time, we met up with the others on top and had breakfast. People! I’ve mentioned Shaheen’s sandwich in the Minor Peak blog hey but I totes forgot to mention her chocolate brownies in the Blinkwater blog and seriously! OMG! Multiple foodgasms!!! It’s so utterly divine that you are reluctant to share but at the same time, you want the world to taste it as well lolz so I shared my piece with bestie…and with Shaheen having both the delicious sandwiches plus the brownies, no-one was interested in my koesiesters I don’t mind though coz I wasn’t interested in them either hehe
The hasty hikers then made their way down Woody Ravine and as the 6 of us weren’t at all in a hurry, each of us found a nook in the rock and made like a lizard and just baked in the glorious sun! We chatted and laughed and chilled like this for more than an hour I think! BLISS! I tell you! I plea with Anwar to please take us to the ‘Surfboard’ but he was too chilled out to do anything lolz….Everyone else was too chilled to join me and its pretty pointless going alone with no-one to take a pic of me so I chill..
Lucky me, Taahir and his group comes along and Anwar asks him to take me and he says ofcoz! Bestie was still way too chilled out to join me They didn’t believe me that it was just over the hill. Anwar said that he would wait at the car for me and off I went to finally get my surfboard photo! 😀
Now! There are some who has been teasing me about 3 rockfall incidents I’ve been on and I know they are just teasing me but it actually affects me psychologically. I couldn’t go to the edge for fear that the thing would break off! Meh! The mountains are millions of years old and it could happen! The surfboard itself was because of rockfalls so yah that was disappointing!
Photos are done and the rest of Taahir’s group catches up and Anwaaz tells me that my group is still on ‘chill rock’ so ran to them to catch up…they are not there! So I hastily make my way down Woody Ravine at 12:20pm and shortly catch up to them. Stopping here and there to take photos and blow my nose lolz I pass Anwar and Shaheen. I then catch up with Doc, Luke and bestie. We are down the Ravine by 12:42 and wait on the other two for a while until Bestie got tired of waiting so we made our way back to the car with a very loooooooooong walk along the pipe track. I also hear voices at a lookout point which I’ve never seen before so had to check out the views from there and the guys there offered to take photos of us when we attempted to take selfies lolz
We eventually reach the cars at 2:10pm and bestie sits with me on the bench for a few minutes before he too leaves. I’m by myself, relaxing on the bench in the shade with Table Mountain as my view and doze off ^_^ The rest makes it back around 2:30pm and I’m contentedly lazy!
This hike was really Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious! THANK YOU! Thank you to Rashaad for giving Shaheen a ‘day pass’ so that she could join us. We miss you and especially Naz who never missed a hike so please do heal soon! We miss your vibe you bring along on the mountain Nazeela. Heal swifty Rashaad, John, Nazeem and Hayley.
Until my next hike, ciao for now (no hike next weekend as I have Eid prep to do)
PS – my legs are sooooooooooooooo sore today! Hiking up and down Platties doesn’t even affect me but as we had the chill plus my run after the chill, my muscles didn’t like it but the chill was totes worth the discomfort I’m feeling today!
(at one stage it was just easier rolling around my office chair than getting up lolz)
